San Xavier Mission on Good Friday

We went to the San Xavier Mission — a Roman Catholic Mission in Tuscon founded in 1692. Construction of the current church began in 1783 and was completed in 1797.

While close to the Tuscon airport, the mission is in a fairly desolate area. giving it a very timeless feel.

It is a place of contrast. White, bright facade, dark, somber interior. Oppressive heat, cool walls. Bright colors and cactus flowers surrounded by dry rock land. It is a very memorable place. Striking. Especially on Good Friday, when the gift shop and museum were closed, and the mission’s only purpose was to be in service of the day.

Enjoy the virtual tour. Hopefully, it’s less than 95 degree weather where you are.
