Patterns.

In 2018, Washington DC had the wettest year ever recorded. Normally I love taking pictures of rain but when it’s an everyday thing, it loses its novelty pretty fast.

I did go out quickly tonight because the raindrops on the bushes with the Christmas lights create a special kind of magic.

Here are two pictures of the same set of raindrops.

To capture the first image, I zoomed in on the smallest points of light reflected in the center of the drop to stretch the reflections on the outside edges and enlarge the bokeh in the background. I then bumped up the blue to mimic a monotone, but didn’t push it all the way as the touch natural green that remained created a strange luminescence similar to water.

The second shot is for context, and shows the water drops in a more familiar form.

I love the smooth contrast of the abstract. It feels like an illustration or print.
